The Best Sci-Fi Fantasy of 2018

Today we’re going to break down a few favorites for 2018 in all the categories we talk about here at D & S and pull out a few that have been curated by us. Don’t worry there are no spoilers!

Movies

Avengers: Infinity War was the must see of the year but it shouldn’t overshadow some of the others that hit the box office and people are still talking about today. Solo: A Star Wars Story for example was almost squashed before it arrived and yet people are still recommending it and pleasantly surprised at it’s fit into the Star Wars universe. Antman & The Wasp did well in the box office but there’s still some debate about how well the movie was received in the end. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom rounds out the top five family friendly films of the year.

Television

We’ve placed Netflix originals in the realm of television for the purpose of keeping it simple but the two shows that are pulling ahead for us are Manifest on NBC and Travelers on Netflix. However, if we’re being honest our hearts still belong to Lost in Space on Netflix which we await with hearts in our throats.

Books

In the book category, we’ve got so many that it was hard to choose. Obviously, Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi is at the top of our list this year. However, our friends at Goodreads have an excellent best-of list worth checking out too. Their winner this year in the Science Fiction category was Vengeful by V.E. Schwab. It’s also not surprising to see Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas blowing up the competition in the YA fantasy and science fiction group. Belles by Dhonielle Clayton did well in this category too, however, we’d like more book and less cliff hanger from her next time.
